Lounge Chairs

Van der Berg Rock lounge chair

Van der Berg Rock lounge chair in taupe leather

This large and brutalist piece is an eye catcher in any interior. This Van der Berg Rock lounge chair was designed for Montis, circa 1970s. Gerard van den Berg named the model Florence, yet it is often referred to as the Rock. Considering the shape and voluptuous design this might be a better name. In original condition with the light taupe aniline leather well preserved and patinated. The item has been checked and the leather has been professionally treated.

Dutch designer Gerard Van Den Berg arguably defined a turning point during the 1970s, away from classic midcentury Dutch furniture design to more contemporary design that made use of different materials such as rattan and leather. For Montis, a company he started with his brother, his design aesthetic, stemmed from concepts of comfort: cushiony seats with a solid and sturdy body. Nevertheless he maintains a sleek elegance to each piece with his balanced, and often singular, use of warm leather upholstery and carefully placed stitching.
