Oddvin Rykken (born December 11, 1937 in Øystese Norway) is a Norwegian furniture designer, who became most famous in 1970s with his leather Ribo lounge chair. Oddvin Rykken is essentially a self-taught designer. Together with Svein Gusrud and Peter Opsvik, he formed the tribe of the so-called balance designers (‘balans-gruppen”), who stood behind the Norwegian design revolution in the 70’s, which brought out a range of models of chairs that gave the user the ability to move and ballance the body while sitting.
