Lounge Chairs

Paulin Oyster in grey and red for Artifort

Paulin Oyster lounge chair, Artifort 1960s

Pierre Paulin exhibited this voluptuous, sculptural lounge chair at the World Fair Expo Brussels in 1958. This modernist piece immediately attracted the attention of Dutch Industrial designer Kho Liang Ie who worked as Creative director for Dutch furniture manufacturer Artifort. This Mid-Century Modern and sculptural model (model Oyster catalogue no.157 ) became an iconic collection piece and was in collection from 1959-1979.

The listed Paulin Oyster, with its minimalist nickel-plated frame and almost floating shell, is from this original series. It is completely re-upholstered in a thick quality red and grey melange furniture fabric (Nevada by De Ploeg). The item has a great comfort, and relax seating. Eye-catching by design.
