Lounge Chairs

Kwok Hoi Chan for Steiner

Kwok Hoi Chan for Steiner, 1968

‘Zen’ lounge chair designed by Kwok Hoi Chan for Steiner Paris in 1968. This piece is an original from this period, completely restored with new light grey wool upholstery. Very good comfort. This model refers to an imaginary alphabet borrowed from Chinese calligraphy, showing Chan’s roots. A modern sculptural piece and inspired by the mid century modern pieces from French Designer Pierre Paulin (for Artifort), such as the Groovy and M chair.

Born in Hong Kong in 1939, Kwok Hoï Chan is an endearing figure in international design. He undertook a studie as an architect. In 1966 he first emigrated to England after which he moved to France and began a long and fruitful collaboration with the furniture manufacture Steiner. Most designs he created appeared in the Hall of Design in the 60s and 70s. Chan died in 1990 in Hong Kong.
